Project
Renowned architecture firm Gustavo Penna e Associados recommended FG Consultoria Empresarial to complete the structural design of the Patrimonium Headquarters in Lagoa da Prata, Minas Gerais, Brazil. The BRL 23 million building comprises 1,500 square meters on six floors, with expansive openings that reveal a vibrant interior. The goal was to fully integrate the structural design with the architectural model to achieve a safe, viable, and economical structural solution.
Solution
FG Consultoria developed the entire project on a BIM platform, allowing team members to integrate structural design with the architect’s Revit model. The designers created a bidirectional link between the Revit model, RAM, and STAAD to model the various structural assets of the project. Using this method, the team ensured that the architectural and structural designs were compatible.
Outcome
All of FG Consultoria’s structural design was completed using BIM methodology. The full range of software capabilities, including interoperability along with a highly effective process, and seamless collaboration, reduced total project execution time by about 60%. The team reduced structural modeling by 80% and executive design by 50%. The digital process allowed the construction phase to be error-free and included prestressed slabs, retaining walls, shear walls, and a deep foundation. The client was very happy with the platform that FG Consultoria produced.
Software
RAM was used to model beams, pillars, concrete and retaining walls, and prestressed slabs. STAAD was used for modeling foundation blocks and posts. The integrated workflow and interoperability between Bentley applications and other market software applications proved that it was possible to integrate architectural design and structural analysis and design in a unified BIM platform.
