Bobo II-III 54 MW Power Plant

    Burkina Faso

Project Summary

Telemenia, a global power provider, retained I.Y. Genesis Advanced Engineering (Genesis) to design the Bobo II-III 54 megawatt power plant as an extension to an existing plant in the landlocked African nation of Burkina Faso. Genesis’ scope of work for this EUR 43 million project included everything except the design of the electrical/control/monitoring systems. To meet the aggressive 1.5-year schedule, Genesis elected to design all aspects of the project using Bentley products.

The use of Bentley software and services enabled the project team to jumpstart the design and split the work between its offices in Israel and the project site. Collaboration among the disciplines was simple and efficient, and errors and clashes were eliminated. The ability to combine and export models as 3D PDF files aided in communicating the design to the client. On site, the project manager and site supervisors were able to review the entire project, saving hours of explanations.

Genesis saved more than five months during design by using Bentley’s integrated products. Steel structures and piping systems were designed at the same time thanks to Bentley software capabilities. Early publication of piping materials and accessories by trade allowed piping spool production and line assembly to begin sooner. Production time for shop drawings and isometrics was also reduced by automated procedures. These actions saved more than two months during construction.

Genesis employed a number of Bentley products, including Bentley AutoPIPE, Bentley AutoPLANT, MicroStation, Bentley Navigator, OpenPlant, ProSteel, and STAAD.Pro.

  • The two-month reduction in project delivery time saved the engineering, procurement, and construction contractor about USD 300,000.
  • Using Bentley software reduced design errors to nearly zero.
