Project

Vedanta Limited-Cairn Oil and Gas (Cairn) operates more than 850 wells spanning three blocks in India. As the fields age and mature, the wells are presented with issues, including corrosion, scaling, and wax accumulation affecting flow rates and overall well operation. The company previously managed well integrity and flow assurance using error-prone manual processes lacking data visibility, integration, and accuracy. To ensure that all parameters affecting well performance are robustly monitored in an integrated environment that facilitates preventive maintenance and corrective action, Cairn needed a flexible digital platform to automate well integrity and flow assurance management across all assets.

Solution

Using AssetWise, Cairn established a connected data environment and implemented a smart well integrity and flow assurance management system (SWIM) to efficiently manage overall well integrity and flow assurance issues. Bentley’s interoperable software automates the monitoring and management of the entire well stock, interfacing with Cairn’s internal web-portal and other existing data sources through the connected data environment. As the digital solution for a successful SWIM implementation, AssetWise provides notification to responsible stakeholders and facilitates automation of all flow assurance and well stimulation-related data, enabling timely corrective action and production optimization.

Outcome

The AssetWise-based SWIM system helped Cairn generate a comprehensive central database for all wells within a connected data environment, eliminating time spent searching for data from disparate sources. Bentley’s digital solution enhanced decision-making based on accurate data, accessible in real time, optimizing preventive maintenance and corrective action to reduce non-productive well time by 10%. Using the software, Cairn automated performance monitoring processes and notifications when wells exceed safe operating limits, streamlining workflows. It also enabled personnel to timely address and prevent any breach of the safe operating envelope, avoiding potential spills and contamination to the environment.

Software

Cairn used AssetWise as the foundation for its web-enabled, real-time system to ensure efficient well integrity and flow assurance management of the company’s entire well stock. Using the templates available in AssetWise helped accelerate project delivery, enabling quick replication of similar templates for quick deployment of all wells. The software allows dashboards to be created and customized at any level of the asset structure to fully visualize and identify asset risks or hazards, facilitating preventive maintenance to ensure optimal well performance. Working in a connected data environment increased system visibility, well availability, flow assurance, and data management.
