Project
With a goal to help speed sales of land register locations and provide all departments of the National Geographic Institute of El Salvador access to land registry data, the National Registry Center of El Salvador (NRC) wanted to enable users to locate any parcel in the national land registry via a single click from a Web browser running Google Earth. The NRC needed to map the land register locations with software running in background mode on a Web server to act as a map publisher. To meet these challenges and avoid using a costly dedicated map server, the NRC required flexible, interoperable GIS mapping tools.
Solution
NRC used Bentley Map in background mode on a Web server to act as a map publisher. With its ability to import KMZ elements from a DGN file, Bentley Map enabled the team to use a free Google Earth plug-in to view land parcels with a single click. Bentley’s collaborative and interoperable software provided NRC a cost-effective solution for the project.
Outcome
Using Bentley Map saved significant costs, enabling users to work from a Web browser with a single Bentley license without the need for a costly dedicated map server. Operating costs are minimal given that the low-cost Bentley solution can use the free Google Earth plug-in. With Bentley Map as the foundation for its geographic mapping system, users can precisely locate a parcel on the national land registry with a single click, minimizing errors, saving time, and optimizing service to citizens.
Software
The ability of Bentley Map to accommodate various file formats, importing KMZ elements from a DGN file, was instrumental in enabling NRC to view the land divisions using a free Google Earth plug-in. Bentley’s collaborative, interoperable software facilitates information mobility and provides all departments of the National Geographic Institute of El Salvador access to land registry data that can be used for analysis involved in the property registry modernization project.
